Hey friends of Studio A!
A quick note to tell you about some upcoming offerings you can look for at Studio A. There are lots of good projects at various stages of the brewing process here!
First up: Feel to Heal
Many of you have heard about my 8-week flagship program called Feel to Heal, which typically happens twice per year. Another round is coming up this fall! This is an educational program for a small group of up to 14 people, where we deep-dive into how our emotions, emotional experiences, stress, and trauma, all affect our body and contribute to physical tension and pain. It includes a solid curriculum, created by yours truly and refined over a multi-year process, that is thorough and chock-full of information, insights, and experiential exercises. Every participant gets to keep a binder of materials and resources, and a video recording of the class is made available for 1 week in case anyone has to miss. Dates are Monday nights, 6:45-8:45pm, from August 19 to October 7 (meeting on Tues, Sep 3 in lieu of Labor Day). Read more and consider joining us here. The early bird rate, which offers 10% off, expires on July 8. Here are the topics covered:
Week 1 - Orienting, Intentions, Resources, SIBAM, Interoception
Week 2 - Pendulation, Capacity, Emotions & Their Roots in the Body
Week 3 - Befriending the Body, Fascia, Self-Treatment Lab
Week 4 - The Neuroscience of Pain, The Sense of Self, Proprioceptors, Grounding & Dissociating
Week 5 - Stress & Trauma, Safety, Body as Container
Week 6 - Anger, Boundaries, Communication, Shame
Week 7 - Grief, Acceptance, Movement
Week 8 - Joy, Empowerment, Integration
I am so appreciative of the feedback I’ve gotten over the years of teaching this class. Here is one from a participant last year:
“10/10! Allie is warm, engaging, vulnerable, knowledgeable, and honest. I have a great launchpad to continue my healing journey. I have become more accepting of and loving towards a body I've hated and neglected.”
See more testimonials on the website, and reach out with any questions you may have. I’d love to see you in class. 🙂
Trauma-Informed Certificate for Bodyworkers
It is imperative that as massage therapists and other bodyworkers we understand how to work in a trauma-informed way. Touch work of any kind can be very powerful for bringing up old wounds, memories, emotions, fears, and all sorts of things—even if we’re not intending to. I believe that to know how to conduct a session with a client in which those sorts of things can arise is crucial to our profession as bodyworkers, but unfortunately is barely touched on in our training, if at all. Topics such as emotional boundaries, consent (verbal AND body), clear and helpful communication, attunement, co-regulation, and the various states of the autonomic nervous system… all of these are forming the backbone of the curriculum I’m developing to offer a certificate program here in Indy and also online, to reach a wider audience of bodyworkers.
Boundaries Workshop
It’s been on my heart for years to offer a stand-alone workshop, maybe 4 times per year, to the general public, on the topic of Boundaries. When you involve the body in the discovery of where your boundaries are, where you WANT them to be, and how you communicate that, it’s immensely powerful and crazy effective. And the longer I’m involved in somatic work, the more clearly I see how so much of what trauma is all about is BOUNDARIES, whether or not we viewed it as such when it occurred. I’ve just started putting my ideas together for this one-day local event and am aiming for early 2025. Stay tuned!
Release & Refresh @ Home
My co-teacher of the Release & Refresh classes, Michelle, and I have started to dream: what if we took these classes online? What if more than just those within the Indy area could benefit from this unique offering we’ve developed of engaging the body in deep, gentle stretches while simultaneously engaging the nervous system in guided imagery and meditation to drop out of fight/flight/freeze states? What if people around the world could join in? We’re having fun thinking through what elements would translate to Zoom and what would need to be modified, and what it would take to pull it off. It is critical to both of us that the integrity of the in-person classes not be compromised, or that our attention in the live classes not be pulled in multiple directions. Therefore, the online version of the class would be its own offering, not simply a webcam view of an in-person class, and would likely be offered on a weekday morning. Hopefully this will come to fruition here in the fall.
Check out our new videos!
I’m pleased to announce that we have made 3 short videos to help folks better understand what we do at Studio A. They’re featured on the home page of the website, but I’ve also embedded them below if you wish to watch them. As one of Indiana’s only trauma-trained bodyworker, I get tons of questions about what exactly I do! I hope these answer those questions and explain the basics of where trauma and the body intersect, and what body-oriented trauma resolution looks like.
