For years I have talked about wanting to expand my Feel to Heal Program and other educational offerings to an online space, so as to reach a broader audience. I’ve been slowly working towards that for a long time now, and last October I kicked it into high gear and have been devoting tons of hours into making it a reality. I am now so elated to introduce to you…
This “On Demand” side of Studio A has its own website — ondemand.studioAbody.com — along with its own email list/newsletter, which will only be about the online offerings available there and will have nothing to do with the local happenings at our studio here in Brownsburg. Since it’s just starting out, we’d appreciate whatever love you want to show. If you have been touched (ha! no pun intended) or impacted in some way by the work we do at Studio A to help bring healing to those suffering from the effects of stress and trauma, we’d be so grateful if you would pass this on to friends and family outside of the Indy area who may benefit from our online offerings. You can do that by simply forwarding this email (or using the “share” button at the bottom of this email), or sharing a direct link to our website. Thank you!
Healthy Helpers: Developing Therapeutic Longevity
To my fellow therapy and helping professionals — mental health clinicians, addictions counselors, social workers, bodyworkers, first responders, coaches, etc. — What are you doing to stay in this game for the long haul? What strategies do you have for preventing compassion fatigue and burnout?
I invite you to tackle your work with clients in 2025 with a deeper awareness of your own nervous system responses to their material and a greater capacity to be with their trauma stories.
Being exposed to others’ “trauma material” on a daily basis does not necessitate that you carry their load and endure suffering in your own body. But sometimes we end up doing just that, without conscious awareness. If you are feeling worn down, burned out, emotionally wounded or injured, disillusioned, or even straight-up angry at the difficulty of your therapeutic or helping role, I feel you! I have been there and understand just how tricky of a place that is to be. Preventing vicarious trauma (also called secondary trauma) requires intentional strategies, to ensure we can continue to do our good work for years to come.
If you want to learn somatic tools to prevent compassion fatigue and burnout in your therapeutic role, consider joining our online course called Healthy Helpers. We’ll meet live every Friday for 90 minutes, from 12:15 to 1:45 pm, from February 28 to April 4, and feel free to bring your lunch! Each session will be recorded and made available to participants afterwards.
Priced to be accessible to even those working for nonprofits and charities, my hope is that this course can enable helping professionals (both local and afar) to be able to continue to do their job… because we desperately need them!
Right now through February 7 there is an early bird rate of $120 (you must enter the coupon code EARLY-BIRD at checkout). Please pass on the word that this course exists, as there are so many therapists, case workers, first responders, etc. that desperately need to be equipped with tools for developing therapeutic longevity so that they do not burn out and are forced to stop doing what they love and are trained for. This course is the first offering of the “On Demand” branch of Studio A. You can find it on the On Demand website, or click the button below to be taken directly to the specific page for the course.
Release & Refresh this Fri & Sat
Tomorrow (Friday) night 6-8 pm, as well as Saturday morning 9-11 am, we are holding our monthly weekend Release & Refresh classes. There are 2-3 spots left in each class for those wishing to give this unique class a try for dropping out of states of fight/flight and freeze and gaining a different perspective on the stressors of life. That’s what naturally happens when we intentionally work with the nervous system and the body, which we do via gentle stretching while engaging in neurosensory exercises. If you want to reduce tension and tackle your stress load, consider joining us!
Feel to Heal —> The Emotional Resilience Roadmap
For those not familiar, Feel to Heal is the 8-week program I have held here at the studio for 4 years running, which deep-dives into how our body processes stress and difficult emotional experiences, and how we can develop resilience and learn how to move through and out of hard emotions, all using somatic (body-based) techniques. I am in the final stages of expanding and deepening the course material to turn it into a 12-week online offering so that it is more comprehensive and available to folks outside of the Indy area. The online version has been named “The Emotional Resilience Roadmap” and should be available within the next few months on the Studio A On Demand website.
Get more info about that offering by signing up for that website’s email newsletters, which you can do right there on the home page of the site.
I will continue to hold the live program here at my studio 2-3 times per year, as it’s one of my favorite parts of my work (and locally it will still be called Feel to Heal). We just began a round of the program last week, with a full class of 15 people. Fall dates have been set for those who didn’t get to join us this round! We’ll meet on Monday nights, 6:45-8:45pm, August 11 to October 6. Enrollment will open in May, so stay tuned!
Trauma-Informed Massage
Callie, our trauma-informed massage therapist, has been doing an amazing job building connections in Hendricks County with mental health therapists so that the right people know that we exist and that we are here to support folks looking to heal from the effects of stress and trauma. The type of massage she offers can look and feel like a “normal” massage, and perhaps you are someone who simply Googled “massage near me”, found our listing, and booked with us, not even aware of the trauma-informed standards we hold and do our work by. If that’s the case, I’m so glad you came and hopefully you benefited from the work! For those who specifically seek out massage or bodywork that is trauma-informed, the practices we operate by and the way we hold space can make all the difference, and sometimes without these trauma-informed practices in place, massage would simply not be accessible to some. We are honored to be one of the few truly trauma-informed massage practices in the state of Indiana. Thank you for supporting our business and our mission to make trauma-informed bodywork accessible to folks in central Indiana! If you would like to book a massage with Callie, you can see her schedule and book with her here.
Enjoy your weekend, friends! Be well!
