This week, on Thursday night at 7:00 pm, will be the final self-defense class with Sgt. Pete Fleck. (Cue mournful wailing.) Really, this man has contributed amazing things to our community, and we will be so sad to see him go!

If you wish to join us for his final class, come on Thursday, Dec 8, 7:00 - 8:15 pm to the Brownsburg Police Training Facility at 75 Whittington Dr., adjacent to the bowling alley behind Applebee’s. Unfortunately I will be out of town and cannot make it to this final class. I am sure that, as always, it will involve a lot of fun, so join in!

Moving Ahead…

So what is the future of self-defense in Brownsburg? Well I’m glad you asked! I just got off the phone with Josh O’Brien, with the Brownsburg Police Department, who is also the owner of Brownsburg Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. (Some of you may know him; he helped out one night at the first annual self-defense intensive back in 2020.) He has kindly agreed to open up his gym once a month to offer a drop-in self-defense class for women, for $10 per class, so that there are still opportunities to learn. Start date and exact times are still to be determined; he mentioned the possibility of a monthly Sunday afternoon class. His gym is located on south 267 near the new Dollar General store. Is there interest in this? Let me know! The more feedback I can give him from all of you, the quicker it can get started.

Of course Sgt. Pete’s replacement, Elsiana Crosby, is set to return from active military duty in late summer and will be available to resume BPD-offered free self-defense classes after that. So stay tuned about that. But yay for Josh O’Brien’s offer to hold a space for us who wish to continue in the meantime. So send me your feedback/input on if you would like to come to Josh’s class so that I can forward it onto him. Thanks!

Don’t forget about class tomorrow night — yep, it’s already the 2nd Thursday of the month and the time has arrived. Starts at 7:00pm and usually is over by 8:15 or 8:30. Reminder that the location is at the Brownsburg Police Training Facility at 75 Whittington Dr. Brownsburg, back behind and around Applebee’s and the bowling alley.

Sgt. Pete is set to retire very soon, and so these fall classes with him provide us with our final chances to learn from his expertise in all things martial arts and self-defense. Don’t miss out! If you’ve been wanting to come more often but haven’t, this is your time!

And of course the wonderful Elsiana Crosby of the BPD will be taking Pete’s place and continuing the self-defense classes, after her stint in active duty with the National Guard until summer 2023. So there will be a period of several months with no active classes happening (booooo!) but we will be ready and waiting to get started back into it when Elsiana returns and resumes the classes.

If you attended the Self-Defense Intensive that took place in August, make sure to keep coming back to the regular monthly classes to maintain what learning and progress you gained. Drilling it into your head regularly is what keeps it fresh and ready for use when needed. Here’s a shot of us flexing it for you at the intensive. :)

I’m out of town for the next few days, so wanted to be sure to send this out before I go. There will be NO regular self-defense class in August (normally the 2nd Thursday of the month) because if the self-defense intensive happening August 1-5 (next week!). Pete deserves the night off after devoting a whole week towards us. 😊 We’ll pick the regular schedule back up on September 8.

The intensive is about full, BUT if you’re interested to attend and just haven't signed up yet, I encourage you to, because every year there’s always 1 or 2 registrants who cancel.
